July 17, 2017 – “Jack Jameson, was a dear friend of Bucks for Kids, having served on the Board of Directors for 14 years, since 2003 and On the Bucks Co. Children and Youth Advisory Board for many years simaltaneoulsy.
Jack was a familiar figure in Doylestown. He frequented the Bagel Barrel on Court Street almost daily, attended the Tinicum Fireworks and concert every year and could be counted on to play a major role in every Veteran celebration, funeral and of course the Doylestown Memorial Day parade. He was a Boy Scout leader and very involved in that organization.
Jack cut a dashing figure with his full head of grey hair and distinctive voice.
Jack served Bucks For Kids with enthusiasm and good cheer selling tickets every year for our Beef and Beers, our Breakfasts with Santa, our Celebrity Bartender night and other events. We joked that people would fear his approach as he was never shy about asking for donations.
Jack will be missed by Bucks for Kids. A celebration of his life will be held on June 28. Details to come.
June 13, 2017 –
Bucks for Kids is grateful to MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) Foundation for its recent $1,000 donation that was used to assist a Bucks County C & Y client – Donna, age 12 – realize her musical dreams. Donna, a gifted musician, is in placement due to her mother’s drug addiction and lack of housing. The young girl wanted to attend a special music camp that will significantly enhance her vocal and piano skills, along with her self-confidence. Said Donna’s caseworker, “Donna is focused like a laser on her music – she is on fire!”
MDRT’s mission is to increase member participation in worthwhile charitable organizations throughout the world and to fund these deserving organizations. Mitch Marcus is the nephew of long-time Bucks for Kids Board Member Harold Horowitz. Marcus, a MDRT Board member, sought this grant in memory of his uncle and to continue his legacy for the benefit of Bucks for Kids.
While Bucks Co. C & Y provides the basics of food, shelter, and medical care for children & youth in care, enrichment activities such as Donna’s music camp, are simply unaffordable. Since 1991, Bucks for Kids, an all-volunteer 501c3, provides financial assistance to thousands of kids, paying for non-essentials such as summer camp, tutoring, class trips and scholarships.

September, 2016 – The Central Bucks school nurses donated over 50 handmade blankets for Bucks County Children & Youth foster kids. Three nurses – Claudia Larkin, Jane Bocuzzi and Mary Horvath -- made the blankets as part of their Community Service Project. The blankets were displayed on September 10 at Doylestown United Methodist Peach Festival.
Larkin, who has been a foster parent, recalled how many times foster kids arrived with only a few items in a brown bag or garbage bag. Said Larkin, “I knew first-hand how comforting it would be for the children to choose their own soft blanket before they moved into a new home.” Blanket designs included dogs, Disney princesses, dinosauers, and hearts. The blankets will be distributed by caseworkers.
Said Stacey Leffler, Children & Youth supervisor, “I know how busy school nurses can be. The fact that they made these blankets in their spare time shows how much they care about kids.”
Said Horvath, “We see foster kids in our schools going through so much upheaval. We wanted them to know that their school nurses appreciate what they face.”
