Bucks for Kids is the sole source of individual funding for kids in Foster Care.
Funding is for only Bucks County Children.

WE HELP

  • Bucks County Children under 18 who are at risk
  • Special needs children
  • Children declared dependent because their parents are unable to care for  them due to:
    • Substance abuse
    • Mental/Physical challenges
    • Incarceration
    • Death

Many of these children live with families who are unable to afford “extras” such as summer camp, tutoring, baseball games, Birthday Parties, music lessons. We fill that Gap.

BUCKS COUNTY CHILDREN OVER 18

Every year, Bucks for Kids awards scholarships to high school graduates who “AGE OUT” of the system.

HOW WE HELP

No child should feel they are facing the world alone. They need guidance, advice, help in decision making and a place to call home. This is especially true for children in care and teens on the verge of adulthood and independence.

The children we serve have all experienced trauma and loss. With the help of their foster families and Bucks for Kids, they get the support they need to heal and gain their footing in the world and develop the life skills to be successful.

Everyone does better when they have someone in their corner rooting for them.

Even more than other kids, Foster Kids need the “EXTRAS” often denied to them. Every month, the Foster Children’s caseworkers apply to Bucks for Kids on behalf of individual children explaining their particular unmet need and Bucks for Kids funds the activity or item.

Typical Requests include funds for tutoring, music lessons, clothing, beds, uniforms, computers, graduation and prom expenses, college application fees, class trips, and many other "extras" that other kids take for granted.

Summer Camp

NO STATE OR COUNTY FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE TO PAY TO SEND FOSTER KIDS TO SUMMER CAMP

Funding for summer camp is our most frequent request. Summer camp is very expensive. Even Day Camp, to the strained finances of a foster family, is not affordable.

The benefits of Summer Camp to a Foster Child are immeasurable, as camps provide:

  • Socialization and Interaction with peers outside of the classroom,
  • Personal growth and independence,
  • Learning becomes fun.

Costs of Summer Camp

A YMCA Daily Camp cost $150 to $300 per week. Overnight camps are up to $500 per week and Specialized Camps, such as MHMR, Computer, Language, and Reading can cost $1,000 per week.
